Whether you are concerned about the rising cost of fresh produce, want to ensure you're providing nutritious food for your family, or just like the idea of growing your own food, having a vegetable garden just makes sense. But how do you get started?
Whether you're new to vegetable gardening or just someone trying to learn more about gardening in general, this hands-on workshop is for you. Join SCMGA Master Gardener Jeannie Manis to learn all about:
- what plants need to thrive
- seed starting
- best seeds for starting indoors versus direct sowing outdoors
- easiest vegetables and annual flowers to grow
- fun ways to introduce children to gardening
- selecting and preparing a garden site
Attendees will finish up with a hands-on, seed-starting session where attendees will have the opportunity to plant a flat of seeds to take home. They will also be able to select seeds that are best direct-sown in their gardens once it's warm enough to plant.
SCMGA will provide seed flats, plant cells, soil, and seeds for popular, easy-to-grow vegetables and annuals.
Open to anyone; children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
