Event Details

Baraboo Buds Garden Club is for all people interested in gardening in the Baraboo area. Our April meeting is at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, April 9. We will meet in the Creative Classroom near the Main Service Desk at the library, 230 4th Ave., Baraboo.

In April, we have a special presentation about planting your garden to support birds and bees given by Laura Ahola and Lenny LaCrosse. Topics will include: the importance of Wisconsin pollinators, how to attract pollinators, local pollinator garden resources, and honeybees in Sauk and Columbia counties.

About the presenters:

Laura Ahola - Laura and her husband, Jon, have a small berry orchard in Columbia County. They have grown a variety of berries, vegetables and flowers for the past 25 plus years. Over the years Laura and Jon have planted a variety of Wisconsin native pollinator flowers as well as imported pollinator flowers and trees and have noticed an increase in crop yield when they have a flourishing pollinator garden. Though not a master gardener, Laura is very happy to share the gardening knowledge she has learned along the way.

Lenny LaCrosse - Lenny is a Navy Veteran who got interested in beekeeping while studying Sustainable Agriculture at CalPoly Pomona. He came back to Wisconsin in 2018 and enrolled in the Heroes to Hives Beekeeping program through Michigan State University. Lenny started keeping bees three years ago, and is currently enrolled in the Great Plains Master Beekeeping Program through University of Nebraska. Since he started beekeeping, he began planting an orchard and a decent sized garden.

This presentation is co-sponsored by the Sauk County Master Gardener Association.
